pretty girls.

some picks from the spring 2006 runway shows, thus far...

diane von furstenburg:

i love her wrap dresses...in fact, i own one. :) looking at this one, i think that it would look super cute over leggings or another, slightly longer skirt of some sort, that could peek out of the bottom, and an obi belt. layers, layers, layers. also, i love seeing the wrap dress with short sleeves....so cute, so easy.

marc by marc jacobs:

girlish...i like the way this hugs curves. and truth be told, i have always had a thing for overalls or anything in the overall family.

a few jumpers/rompers. i am kind of obsessed with the whole one-piece outfit idea. i think my final project for my construction class just might be a jumper (i.e. top and pants in one). i need to start sketching out some of the ideas i have in my head.

i have to admit it marc, i think my love affair with you has ended. this collection is on trend (meaning: it's pale, shapeless, etc.) but much of it doesn't suit my own personal style. our tastes have diverged, dear. it's been a good run. best of luck. :)

project alabama:

i'm all about this look of layers and full skirts and bright color.

roland mouret:

his stuff is amazing...i love these sexy, curve-hugging styles he does (see also: his fall 2005 collection. whoa momma.)

ashleigh verrier:

a very pretty mod-victorian top from a recent parsons graduate gone-bigtime (just graduated).

***

i'm excited to see what else the brits have in store for the spring...

the von furstenburg wrap dress has always been a favorite of mine! and the project alabama clothes are sweet without being cloying.

her dresses are really amazing! they are made of silk jersey and not only do they flatter like gangbusters, they feel so nice against the skin. so 70s sexy, it hurts. but they totally work today. a true classic.

i wore a von furstenburg-style dress that i had sewn to a 70's MILF/DILF party one of my friends hosted. and yes, i was so 70's sexy that it was painful:)

oooh! I love the project alabama & roland mouret ones. delicious!

especially into the full, layered skirts as well.

I'm digging the layering of bright prints and geometricsd (toss in some lace, too, and I swoon).

Poofy-hipped jumpers not so much, though. Maybe it's just cuz I'm afeared of fashion that could go especially awry on the wrong body type.

Wrap dresses are lush... 70s call girl delicious. Which is why I appreciate them but do not wear them (5'3" and a member of the itty bitty titty club).

yeah, not too poofy at the hip, i agree...but those pics are sort of what i've had on my mind of late, the idea of a one-piece pants jumper thing, so i used them as illustration.

almost everything from marc jacobs this coming spring could fall into the "going especially awry on the wrong body type" category. so sad.

I love layers & full skirts as well. That last outfit for project alabama, LOVE IT, WANT IT!
That Mouret dress is very modern retro, love it too.
And I'm all about wrap dresses.

hey lady.. i just wanted to let you know that i'm adding you. i'm big on frilly dresses, making outfits, and getting multiple wounds from pins and needles. since you seem to be a crafty mama too, i thought we'd make great lj friends. add me back if you want, it not that's cool too.

I love DVF! she is amazing and has been able to keep a look around for decades. It is so unfortunate what happened at her show! To bad it couldn't have been Kimora Lee or JLO....

Glad it's not just me that's fallen out of love with Marc- he used to be the one designer I knew I liked no matter what, but I guess 'what' has just happened and I just feel 'blah'.
I love those Project Alabama outfits- not something I would normally be drawn to (bright oranges/reds) but I love the shape of those skirts. Yum.

one: yesssss bright orange!
two: puce is such an ugly color but i love it in clothes (#3 project alabama)
three: i love diane v. fuhrstenburg. her wrap dress would be paired perfectly with this bright coral half-slip i have that has a micropleated bottom-- tiny coral-pink pleats poking out from the bottom of that dress? yes!

ah! I adore #5 and that last top (especially with the orange). Today I get to go shopping in Harajuku, and your post has made me excited about it!

everything from project alabama down is fabulous. I love the colors and shape of the first dress. and I like how the mouret dress has the curves accented with the sharp points of the collar and the neck. I can't get over the project alabama stuff. I love it. I'm going to have to look more into it.
